Training Opportunities

The path from your master’s degree to a career in biblical counseling can be challenging. While there are many ways to use this training the path to those careers is often unclear. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside new counselors in various stages of their training helping them to grow in counseling skills, discern career options, establish themselves as professional counselors, or simply serving as an experienced voice to offer ideas and help as they navigate counseling situations the Lord has already brought their way.

Services offered.

  • Supervision

Meet one-on-one to talk through cases and counseling related questions. This is a time to ask questions, get ideas, learn how to conceptualize a case and move toward a goal in your counseling time. Frequency can vary depending on what is needed.

  • Consultation Groups

Meet together virtually with other biblical counselors to get a variety of perspectives on a case you feel stuck in. Meetings last an hour and a half and are limited to 4 counselors and myself to allow everyone a chance to bring something to the group.

  • Internships

A combination of supervision and consultation groups that gives new counselors a chance to gain experience and try counseling on for size. See if this fits you, if you want to do this professionally. Get support and community as you launch a new practice. You can tailor this experience to where you’re at in the process. Work with only one counselee or with as many as your schedule allows.

  • Consulting

Sometimes you’re not looking for a regular meeting but want a one-off meeting to talk through a particular facet of a case you’re involved in. I offer consulting by the half hour.

What I love about helping new counselors get started

  • In 2010 I graduated from seminary with an idea that I wanted to move towards biblical counseling but no idea what shape that would take. In 2012 I moved to Portland as a brand new counselor and struggled to establish myself in a city, learned how to start a business, and created a patchwork network of professional supports and growth opportunities. Those were hard years! And now with a decade of experience under my belt, it’s my hope to help new counselors have a smoother start and more robust support as you learn and grow and serve the communities the Lord has placed you in.

  • I’ve worked with CCEF’s School of Biblical Counseling since 2011. I’ve been an online instructor for most of their courses, worked as an instructor with the master’s degree program, and have enjoyed walking alongside of students as they grapple with the biblical counseling material. I love helping teach theory but even more, I love being able to help you learn how to bring those things into the lives of those you counsel.

  • Most people I’ve worked with in the past couple of years come to me because they are not located anywhere near a biblical counseling hub. I love the idea of helping new counselors get established in their neck of the woods to serve the church in whatever town or area the Lord has placed them in.
